A Moment in American Culture

I don't know if you folks have been watching "America's Got Talent." I wouldn't wish any ill on you all if you have missed it. I watch it as form of bonding with my family and because it does produce some pretty unique television. This season has been amusing if only for exploiting Howie Mandel's germophobia.

Anyhoo... It's near the end of the run for this season and we are at the final four. Quite frankly I was amazed when one of these people was "Prince Poppycock." Prince Poppycock actually looks like a fairly normal person till he puts on his wig and ten pounds of clown white. Then Prince Poppycock becomes an opera singing Parisian fop ham of epic proportions. Now I'm not making any aspersions here but Prince Poppycock Liberace called and he wants his gay back! And somehow this very odd mix of the high brow and the low brow got VOTED into the final four.

How this happened I'll never know but I shall enjoy the weirdness for now.

OK TCM WHAT IS YOUR GAME? YOU'LL SHOW BOOBIES ON "16 CANDLES," BUT WON'T LET THE "N" WORD BE USED IN "BLAZING SADDLES" EVEN THOUGH THAT IS THE FREAKIN' POINT OF THE WHOLE FILM? GET IT TOGETHER!"

A brief aside

Just a random aside.

Was watching old episodes of emergency. Noticed again the wonderfully awesome name of "Randolph Mantooth," clearly one of the top ten, non porn, actor names. Then I was looking through the credits and found this:

• Captain Hammer......Dick Hammer

I just love this. First the name "Dick Hammer" automatically shoots up to the top ten list of non porn actor names. Second I have to wonder if Dick Hammer and Mantooth ever went drinking together or were buddies. Finally how awesome a guy you have to be, or sucky as an actor, to have your character to share your real name. I've only seen Jacky Chan pull that awesomeness off!

A word to the Reader, probably in the singular.

Well it has now been a little over a month since I've started this strange experiment. I'd like to thank some people. First off, I'd love dearly to thank one Miss Rhonda, whom I consider a personal muse. Secondly I'd like to thank one Wes P who shook my tree and got me to get busy living. I tip a hat to One Mark L, and James R who got the ball rolling. To all the good crazy folk I've had a good time with writing, fighting, and arting around.

Finally, a special thank you to one special Mr. Joel. Mr. Joel was my first friend of the "geek" persuasion. A true genius even as a kid with the paper work to prove it. He was the original free thinking polyglot! I lost track of Mr. Joel, once when I asked someone what happened to him I was told he ran off to Austrailia to learn how to make whips. This was no more improbably than anything Joel ever did so I believed. I've come back in contact with this remarkable man and found out that he has done something even better, he has raised himself a good family.
