I've said it here before and I'll say it now, the Japanese can be muy weird. It's like the knob sometimes fall off on their volume control for strange and it's left at 11.5. Dating Sims are a good example of this. It's a sub genre of Japanese gaming that is just plain strange. Guys try to seduce digital girls by manipulating the situation and their feelings. Yeah, sort of a groddy feel just describing these things. "The Worl God Only Knows" take the world of dating sims and runs with it.
Our hero is a geek who plays these games so well and so often he's called by fans "The God of Conquests." In real life he's a geeky nerd who dresses emo goth and doesn't really have any interests in girls in reality. One day he accepts what he believes to be a challenge from some anonymous email. Bad move charlie, what he accepted was a deal with the devil. This is explained to him by a pretty female demon with a broom. The details are this, there seems to be a lot of loose souls running around. They are hiding inside the hearts of pretty girls and the only way to free them is to open their hearts as demonstrated by a freely given kiss. Our hero either does this, or he gets a head shorter. Let the games begin.
The problem is that of course reality is not a game. He finds himself stymied by simple things like the girl track team not having their hair up. Everyone of course knows that girls on track team have their hair up. Luckily his demon can change reality in little ways like that which everyone finds very weird. He then tries to put his moves on real women with on again, off again success. Of course he wins his kisses and loose souls, but the real question is will the hero stay a proto-sociopathic geek or will he somehow learn to really connect with people?

Yet another installment of the Japanese are Weird
"Uzumaki" is definitely weird, but I think H.P. Lovecraft would have approved. A town is haunted and cursed, but not by a demon or a ghost. It's haunted by a simple spiral pattern. It's subtle at first, but it starts to get into the characters in increasingly bizarre ways. Let's just say, you will never view "naturally curly hair" the same way ever again.

Japanese are weird
The Magical Girlfriend is a common trope of anime. Basically, normal nerd boy gets a magical girlfriend. On the plus side she can get him out of jams. On the negative side, she tends to get him into jams by being insanely jealous and having odd friends/old lovers/family.
An angel makes for a very unusual girlfriend. In "Tenshi Ni Narumon" (I wanna be an angel) our hero meets a young girl who indeeds wants to be an angel, and her odd family of monsters. They are often attacked by other people of their world who seem to have invented "Rubber tech." It's all mostly light hearted and very fun.
He had it easy. Our hero in Dokuro chan is also sort of dating an angel. I say sort of because it's not his idea. She has latched on to him for reasons all her own. Worse, she has a bad temper and will KILL him on a whim. It's all ok though, cause then she just brings him back to life. What fun!

More Weird Japan
Soul Eater is just weird for weird. Death has a school for those who are made to take the lives of troublesome people and things. These people are paired with living weapons. The series follows three sets of students. The A+ girl and her living scythe, the A+ egotist and his much wiser weapon, and the pampered, neurotic son of death and his twin death dealing pistols sisters. It's all very drool and amusing and tim burton-y slash japan.

The Continuing story on why the Japanese are just plain odd...
Ok, I've seen a lot of parallel worlds (Looking at you evil spock), but "Loveless" is a world I never considered. Everyone has cutesy cat ears..UNTIL they lose their virginity. Oops.
Not everything is odd involves anime (just about nearly 90%) here we have Attack of the Mushroom People. It has to be seen to be disbelieved. Oddly enough, it was probably based on an obscure story by William Hope Hodgeson who died in WWI. Amazing how the ball bounces.
Of course one monster might almost make sense. So let's have 100. Oh, and let's make one an umbrella monster. An. Umbrella. Monster.

Saturday, why Japan is messed up like really really messed up...
Let's see.. oh here's the ending for Vampire Knight.. look at the teddy bear in the corner. Yeah.. messed up..
Ok, maybe though that's just a fluke right? Well how about the beginning of Paranoia agent. Who let open the bughouse gates?
trust me the actual show is just ... well it's messed up.
Still not convinced though? Oh ye of little faith. Let you then gaze upon the unexplained weirdness of CAPTAIN BANANA...
