Generally blobby monsters have to touch you to hurt you. The thing in "X the Unknown," goes against that basic rule and can put a hurtin' on you from quite a distance. That's because it is highly radioactive, and not the good "I got bit by a radioactive spider" kind of radiation. For a film of its time "X the Unknown" is fairly graphic with people getting melt to the bone.
So, the X is pretty much a giant, homocidal, rolling microwave. What is it though? Well it turns out that is a lifeform that comes from the earth's core that pretty much looks like a whole bunch of mud. On the plus side, it's not really interested in burning people to death it's merely looking for anything even vaguely radioactive. As the couple below learns, when the X is about it is best to put off those X rays.
Bonus points for any film with a character named "Haggis"
Nice face melt!
