When the Xel need to travel they need no ships. By will alone they pass from here to there, from then to now. The hard part is crossing the line of the galatic Dopple. When they blue shift we see rainbows.Kick Ass
Well, nothing could live up to the hype that "Kick Ass" generated before its release. I fell in fan boy love with it from the first. And there was trailer after trailer, each with good solid crunch to it. Then it finally got released and it did.... so so. I don't get to the theaters at the moment cause of my condition so I waited. Finally, finally, it came out in dvd. And I watched it.
It did not live up to the hype, but only by " " this much. I love this film stupidly. This is not an objective review. I love it, love it, love it. I finished watching it and did high kicks into the empty air going "SHIT YEAH!" There have been very few films that grabbed my adrenal glands by the boo boos and yanked that chain like tarzan on a fricking vine. "Kick Ass," is one of those films.
"Kick Ass" starts with Aaron Johnson who plays Dave. Dave is a typical high school student, not really a loser, but not a winner either. Sort of nerdy, and a lot of horny. He asks himself the question one day, "Why doesn't someone try to be a superhero." His friends answer "Cause he'd get his ass kicked," But our hero is undeterred. He buys online a wet suit and he practices to be the hero Kick Ass. He goes into his first battle.
Gets stabbed.
Gets hit by a car.
Goes to hospital.
Still dreams are bigger than reality so he tries again. This time he becomes a hit on You Tube. Now though he draws the fire and attention from both mobsters and some folks who are the real deal. The real deal being "Big Daddy," and "Hit Girl" who are driven and more than probably psychopathic. They kill with joyous abandon and leave our hero feeling weak and confused. Can he get his own act together? Can he defeat the mobsters? Can he get the girl? Well you'll have to watch and see.
Aaron Johnson does very well in a somewhat thankless role. Yes he's the title character, but he's surrounded by even more colorful characters that he risks being upstaged. Also, honestly Kick Ass as a hero doesn't really kick ass. He tries, but ultimately he's just like us in that regard. Still what makes him and the movie works ultimately, is that he's the one with the heart. He's the one who is pure enough to really believe someone can make a difference.
Well, ok not so pure. He really likes this one girl. Unfortunately, she believes he is gay. Which leads to some incredibly funny Clark Kentish action. But heck even superheroes want some.
I would be remiss and possibly retarded not to talk more about Big Daddy and Hit Girl. Big Daddy is played by Nicholas Cage, and in this role he redeems himself. He plays both a weirdly, creepy, "normal" daddy type, and then a weirdly scarey Adam Westy guy in a mask. The.....pauses..... as ... he......talks.... as...... Big.... DADDY.... are.... awesome. Hit Girl is played by chloe Moretz. She is more believable as an action hero than say a certain actor who played Rambo. She is the one that kicks ass. It is incredible. It is breathtaking. It is to the theme song of the "Banana Splits." It is seven types of awesom rolled up into one little spitfire of fury.
So watch this film. Buy It. Give money to the director for a sequel!

Sons of Anarchy
One thing I love about DVDs is that often you can catch an entire season at a time of a tv show. I like this, it allows me to really follow the narrative arc a lot better. The way my life is I have a hard time being a loyal viewer and I'm still pre Tivo. So I don't mind waiting a little and getting the whole spicey burrito in one go. Which brings me to "Sons of Anarchy."
Ron Perlman. Really that's all I have to say. Ron. Perlman. You don't know Mr. Perlman. I beg to differ. Remember the tv show "Beauty and the Beast?" The Beast was Ron Perlman. Remember Hellboy? Hellboy was... Ron.. fricking.. Pearlman. Blade II, the best blade film EVER, one of the mean bad ass vampires was ladies and gentlemen Mr. Ron Perlman. Ron Perlman is that nearly unique human who is a sheer giant of a man but can act your socks off. So when Ron Perlman appears in the credits, even a tiny little grade D film, WATCH IT!!
Do I also have to mention Katey Sagal? Not only was she drop dead funny in "Married with Children" (Come on I know it was your guilty pleasure too), but she is the voice of Leela in "Futurama." Joygasm!
The story is simple. The Sons of Anarchy are an outlaw motorcycle band, led by RON PERLMAN!!!! and Katey is his motorcycle momma and the number one alpha prima momma you do not want to mess with. Together they try to keep the Sons going and groom her son Jax to someday lead. Jax has problems though, he's found his dead dad's diary and is getting a conscience and he has to worry about his little baby boy born premature because of his crack addicted old lady. He also has the hots for the doctor who is treating his baby boy and crack addicted old lady.
The Sons aren't having an easy time either. They are gun runners and their warehouse gets burned down. They are fighting the Mexican Mayan gang and they have to worry about a hard ass federal agent and a completely crazed stalker federal agent. Of course, they also worry about their own members. Everyone has a problem, and some may not be loyal. If you aren't loyal to the sons baby, you will be made gone real quick.
This is a great series from FX, full of deep interesting drama. My dad, departed, would have loved it being both a cop and an a motorcycle bad ass in his time. I can't believe this aired on cable some of it is as raw as anything on HBO. One scene that is horrid is the gang removing the tattoo of a failed member ... with a BLOW TORCH. Katey gives the crack addicted momma big syringe of crack in the hospital after the baby is born and tells her she doesn't deserve to live! It is an incredible show. Well worth watching and again...
Ron....
Fricking...
Perlman..
I rest my case.

Elemental Gelade
Elemental Gelade is another anime of the fighting subgenre. This time women are used as weapons. Creates quite an image there but they aren't grabbing ladies by the toes and swinging them like louiseville sluggers, or are they?
In truth, the Edel as they are called have a gem called the titular "elementla gelade" (I thought it was a kind of fluffy desert, so sue me). The Edel can find a human, whom they call a "Pleasure", and bond with them. When they do the Edel turns from a pretty girl into an outlandish weapon and the fight is on. I still think this is a more moral situation than the whole pokemon situation since in theory the edel chooses to bond and fight. I say in theory because there are a lot of people who want funky super girly weapons so there are bounty hunters and such and the life of an edel is never really nice.
Our hero is a young, brave sky pilot who accidently activates an edel who is powerful and the last of her type. She hates humans but there's something about him (maybe cause he tries to see her as a person and not a gatling gun with boobies) that she likes. They bond and then gather allies and fight. We've seen this all before, but this one is fairly nice and I like the world with sky pirates and floating islands.

Djinn

A Djinn is fire unconsumable. A dark spirit from a bright place. When not on earth they live in the fires of the primal forge. It's a two drink minimum and your soul for anyone else to visit. They like it that way.
