No series has taken more chances with the Batman than the Brave and Bold. Unafraid to mine silver age of comics for all the silliness there, it still manages to be relevant to modern audiences. It is a high wire trick that demands respect, and it is a show that deserves more viewers.
Last night was the show at its weirdest. The Bat Mite (an interdimensional weirdo with a batman fixation) brings three of the weirdest batman tales that have ever been told. The first was an early Mad magazine parody of the cape crusaders. The second the Manga version of Batman. Finally, Batman meeting Scooby Doo and the gang.
All three were excellently done, and treat the source material with respect. I loved the Mad parody the best because it captures the manic nature of early Mad so well. Also, it was the best use of a Jerry Lewis type voice since Animaniacs (Oh NICE LADY). They played around a bit with the scooby doo portion. They put in Weird Al as the guest celebrity though he wasn't around at the time of the original scooby doo mystery movies. It's more than forgiveable though, after all a lot of younger viewers might not know who Jerry Reed was. Besides, if Weird Al was around you know he would have been in the show with bells on, probably with Pee Wee Herman.

The Fight Crime: The City
In a world of androids and aliens. Something like The City was bound to happen. A bit of self aware machinery few from the sky one spring day. It fell onto a major city center. From there the bit of machinery attempted to repair itself.
It grew.
Absorbing the old city, the old citizens, it became something completely new. It quickly grew out of control, and soon the superheroes came. The battle raged inconclusively until wiser heads prevailed. A discussion was had. The City was upset, it had no idea it had done something wrong. Profoundly sorry it entered into negotiations with the government. In the end a peaceful settlement was reached. The City released the citizens it had altered, though oddly some elected to stay part of The City. The City promised to stay within a three mile circle.
Now a days you could hardly tell the City from any other thriving metropolis. The streets are always clean, and there are never pot holes, but who notices things like that? No, the City only really shows its true self when someone unwisely tries to menace the people of the City. Then the City Fathers are allowed to take what steps necessary for peace. Super strong, nearly invulnerable, and patched into the city's main frame consciousness; they are capable of handling nearly any threat.

Location: Beyond normal space time
Threat Assessment: 6. Though called "hounds" they are no relation to canines. They are creatures from another space time and can travel through time and enter our world through any sharp angle. They will hunt down anyone that catches their interest without fail, even using other entities to aid them.
Limitations: They need a corner to emerge from. rounded corners will stymie them for a bit.

Monster of the Day: Monolith Monsters

Location: Outer space/rural California
Threat Assessment: 6. An odd mineral from space that grows in the presence of water and petrifies human with a touch. Able to grow about twenty stories tall before crashing down, they destroy buildings with ease.
Limitations: Salt inhibits the growth process.
Personal note: If the meteor that was made up of this mineral had say fallen into the great lakes it would have killed millions. The movie is a great example of 50's sf.
