Sea of Dust

I give "Sea of Dust" points for originality. It's concept is interesting. That the mythical being of Prester John (who rules beyond the Sea of Dust) has become real and is now trying to change the world.

I'll also give it some points for trying to capture the feel of classic Hammer horror films. Finally, it gets some bonus points for using Tom Savini (famed make up artist) to play Prester John.

Unfortunately, points only go so far. It's not a bad film, but in the end it is clearly less than the sum of its part. It doesn't excite and a lot of it just lays there like a dead thing. Also, as interesting as the concept of Prester John is, I have to call shennagans on their use of it. Prester John wasn't some christian boogey man, but more of a utopian figure. Shoehorning the concept as horror really doesn't make sense without a bit more work.
