Though I love cats, I am very flexible and I could do with a big canine. I can't think of a bigger one than the direwolves in "The Game of Thrones." Growing to the size of a small horse they are fast, smart and deadly. Of course, if you want to have your own it's best to start with a puppy. Easier to house train for example when they are not horse sized. Also, if they take a little nip at you then, you'll still probably have a hand.
Of course, the realist in me knows I could never take care of such a wonderful beastie. I can't teach my dogs to fetch, though its true they love me for my food. I can imagine the chaos my ill trained direwolf would cause in the neighborhood. I'm more of a direduck person.
