Blood on the Highway

"Blood on the Highway," is a dumb horror comedy not so much different from other dumb horror comedies like "Stan Helsing." The main difference is that "Blood on the Highway," is about 10% funnier.

The Story is blah, young folk on a drive drive into a town full of vampires. But from there things pick up. First the young folk refreshingly non sympathetic, which is good since young people in these films come off as raging butt holes at any rate. I particularly like the fellow with anger management issues. Definitely someone you want to know in a vampire infestation. Early on he rips off a vampire's arm and starts whanging on said vampire with it saying "Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself?" I know it's juvenile, but I did say this is only 10% funnier. Young Frankenstein it is not.

I also enjoyed the survivalist who is their non vampire liason in the town. He's an ultra libertarian who has declared his house an independent nation (Housechussets) and has (well had, damn vampires!) 12 wives. The vampires themselves are rather new at the whole vampire thing and not terrible effective. In one scene they debate the merits of standing in front of the on coming car, one vampire saying if they just act menacing the car will stop.

It does not.

Overall, "Blood on the Highway," is juvenile and raunchy. It's also rather fun and certainly kept my interest.

  1. As a Stan fan, this definitely seems to be right up my alley! Have you seen Dead and Breakfast? Love the songs in that...
