Piranha

This is what the Syfy people dream of at night.  This is their shining saturday night film if they could get past the censors.  Piranha has not one thought in its head besides having people get fed to the fish or showing boobies, or showing boobies then get fed to the fishes.  If you want brainless, gross fun this is your picture.

Set at a lake during spring break, our buggers come up from an underwater cave that is opened by an earthquake.  This beginning really sets the bar high for the film.  First off, the special guest meatbob is Richard Dreyfuss.  He suddenly, is given a choice between death by maelstrom, or death by piranha and by accident chooses both.  Now that's a death of viking quality!

We now get into plot.  Pretty female sheriff with kids is trying to take care of spring break madness.  The Eldest being a young male wants to join the madness but is saddled with little kid sister and brother.  He ditches them pretty quick though when offered a job with a "Girls Gone Wild," type affair.  Brother and Sister decide to do their own ditching and find themselves on an isolated island as their boat floats away.  So, everyone is seperated as the killer fish come a calling.  Let the buffet of doom commence!

The violence is gross but not horribly so.  It is also sometimes rather creative, like the poor girl who is para sailing then finds herself without feet.  The special effects are obvious but well done.  There's just enough rubber monster look for fun.  The nudity is definitely easy on the eye.  I have to admit as a male there was this scene with two naked ladies swimming in the clearest water, and while watching it, I sort of forgot about killer fish.  Any scene that can make me forget about killer fish is darn good, that's all I'm saying.

If you can handle gross but cartoony violence definitely it's worth a watch.

  1. Loved the review! I have to say nothing in the previews would have steered me wrong on what type of movie this is, your review confirms it.
