A Team

I was never a big A team person.  I don't know why, it just wasn't must see TV for me at the time.  Of course, you couldn't escape the A team specially if you were a boy unless you locked yourself into a closet, and that would mean dealing with closet monsters.  Anyway, I knew all the tag lines, and tropes of the show, and I did see Mr. T. in other venues, most impressively years later as the bearded woman in Freakz.  All this is to say I had only mild curiousity in seeing an A Team movie.

Actually I was mostly amused, I liked it.  It moved fast and wasn't afraid to be stupid.  Liam Neeson was my big reservation.  He's simply too good to be in a film like this.  True to my expectations he brought down the character of "Hannibal Smith," down a notch to reality.  But, I found that he was also able to anchor the film, you do actually believe he does have a plan and that it is not mere bullshitting, something that couldn't be said for television version.

Rampage Jackson does try mighty hard to fill the big shoes of Mr. T.  He doesn't quite do it, he's if you can believe it the cuter more cuddly version of B.A. Baracus.  The film tries very hard to push up his bad assness specially with one wonderful early scene involving a martial artist whom B.A. takes out without a problem.  But, darn it all, he's just fluffy.   The other two major roles are well done and are well acted.

The actual plot is pretty unneccessary.  It starts with how they all got together, then to how they got into prison and more importantly how they got out, from there it's just action jackerwockery so don't pay too much attention and just enjoy the chaos.  Chaos there is plenty, this is the first time I've ever seen anyone fly a tank.

Don't try that at home.

But do watch the A Team.

  1. I was not a fan of the tv show either. Really had a good time with the movie, because they introduce the characters and how they met up front, the link that hooks them together. The action is great--(more shows should have flying tanks)and nothing beats a plate of revenge served cold.
