Ong Bak 3

Well if you haven't seen the first two this might leave you scratching your head. But if you haven't seen the first two of any series why would you look at the third first? Anyhoo, this is the finish to Tony Jaa's epic martial arts and elephant series. I can say this with some confidence since att he moment Tony is now a buddhist monk. Filming this series wasn't easy for Jaa, half way through the first he walked into the jungle and disappeared for some days.

The film is fairly disjointed having seemingly been edited with a meat cleaver. But the story is familiar enough in broad strokes. Our hero was trying to revenge the death of his father, and is then captured by an evil king. He is tortured but is freed. He then is healed but still broken till he finds the truth in buddhism and is made whole and finds peace. Still there is a need for justice so with his mentally challenged side kick he goes after the evil doers. Meanwhile the evil king falls to an even more evil crow/black magician and Tony Jaa must kick the tar/evil out of him.

Even if you aren't familiar with Thai folklore this is a fascinating film. The look is amazing and the martial arts ranges from good to fantastic. My favorite battle is the crow versus the evil king in his troops he's on top of some ruins and he sends blocks crashing down on his foes.
