"Machete" is Robert Rodriguez's film insanity staring Danny Trejo. Danny plays Machete who was betrayed as a Federale. Now a day laborer he becomes improbably embroiled in a political conspiracy and is betrayed again. Well twice is too much and Machete goes on a rampage of violence. He only takes time off to spend time with Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, and Lindsay Lohan which is only understandable. People on Machete's hit list include Don Johnson, Tom Salvini, Steven Seagal, and Robert De Niro.
This is a crazy film that is based on the TRAILER that was in Rodriguez and Tarantino's Grindhouse. The film gain notoriety before it even came out with a second trailer on Cinco de Mayo that directly addressed the current bruhaha in Arizona. After two incredible trailers can the real film live up to the legend of Machete? No, not really. The film drags a little in spot and has, and I hate to say this, way too much Robert DeNiro. But for all that it rocks, and rocks hard. Danny's getting a bit old but when he's swinging a blade it doesn't matter he is a bad ass. I loved Cheech Martin as a priest with a shotgun, and it was fun seeing everyone else who was ever in a Rodriquez film make an appearance.
There are a lot of little things I liked about the film. A discussion about who can get into a secure place. An army of day laborers with cell phones. A low rider cavalry. These things bring a sense of fun into what could have turned into a dour action thudder. Definitely should watch.
