Dororo

You can't always be weird.  Or at least weird in a good way.  For many years I've been a fan of japanese cinema because I can count of them to make films of near non linear brilliance.  Well, like in wine some years are lean years and the past couple have been a bit on the dry side.  The torch seems currently to be in korea and the are certainly making hay.  India has great promise with their Robot flick.  Japan has been giving a lot of grudge and one missed call reruns.

So it's nice to find a Dororo which brings the crazy back to Japan.  It's a fantasy about a man who makes a pact with evil forces.  His end meant splitting up his sun into a lot of itty bitty pieces to be used by demons.  The son would be a basket case if not for a friendly old healer/Dr. Frankenstein that makes him new limbs and organs from dead children.  Now all grown up, our hero and his scruffy female thief side kick travel through japan kicking demon butt so he can get his original body parts back.

This is fast paced fantasy samurai fun.  The bad CGI actually work with the film being cartoony without being "you actually paid for those effects dude?"  Certainly if you want old school japanese crazy, here it is!
