"Hunger" and "The Tomb"

Well now we are hitting some dogs on the fangoria festival circuit. Like the creation of any road kill it's pretty messy. Reviewing sometimes is a dirty job, but I'm glad to do it my happy readers.

"Hunger" is just the type of horror film I don't like to see. A bunch of people wake up in the bottom of a hole. Put there by a madman they are left to starve so the madman can observe. He wants to see who will break first and try to eat everyone else. This is the type of film that generally gets lumped under the label of "torture porn" with good reason. It is ugly, brutal, and pretty devoid of any positive qualities. I can see why a film maker might be attracted to making a film like this. Five people in a dark hole is the ultimate one set "bottle" show, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. "Cube" did this so much better and far more interesting.

"The Tomb," is based on an Edgar Allan Poe poem. Well... it uses the title and the name Ligeia. That's not bad really, Corman did the same thing. What's bad is it looks like a Corman film without Corman. What's worse is despite casting folks like Eric Roberts and Michael Madsen it is a very boring flim about the quest for immortality through a fusion of science and magic. I'll give it points for looking pretty even a bonus point for downing absinthe like it was no tomorrow, but I lost interested pretty much at the half way mark and is just unforgiveable.
